I'm working on my very first novel, Loyalty, Book I: (tagline title TBD) and am in need of some beta readers. I have a few of my friends in real life as beta readers (they say my book is their very favorite beside the Bible, so I'm hoping it's good, LOL), but I'd love for some of you amazingly talented writers to read what I have so far and make any suggestions, too!

What is your novel about?
     Here is the unofficial synopsis of Loyalty, Book I: (tagline title to be determined)     
My heart sank. What? I was grateful to be able to live, but swear loyalty to Tsunayoshi? What about my loyalty to Sensei Kira? And the dead serious oath I had taken?     
     "What will it be, Xiang-Su?" Demanded the shogun. "Take a mere oath and live, or die a criminal?"     
     My eyes swept from Hinoki to Tsunayoshi. I had to make a decision, and I had to make it fast. Who would I be loyal to?

Ari Xiang-Su, an intensively trained ninja living during the time of the Tokugawa shogunate in Japan, has to make some life-or-death decisions regarding her allegiance. It doesn’t help that her arch nemesis, a samurai warrior by the name of Hinoki Ajinomoto, continually surprises her with his questioning actions all the while she undertakes the most potentially fatal missions of her life. When allegations are made and trust is lost, Ari must once again prove her loyalty not to a single human being, but to her very faith. 

Is it God-honoring and appropiate?
Absolutely! There is nothing inappropiate. All of my writings honor God and are family-friendly. However, the theme of the book is set in feudal Japan, and the main characters are ninja and samurai. There are definitely awesome, action-packed fight scenes with some violence, but it is nothing of the extreme. For comparison, Star Wars is more violent than my novel. By a lot. Two of the characters have a silly name-calling battle later on in the book, and the worst language is "idiot", "jerk" and "nincompoop". XD

By the way, the main characters, Ari and Hinoki, aren't Japanese, they just live in Japan. Why? How? Read it to find out! ;)

What is a beta reader?
A beta reader is someone who reads your work-in-progress or finished work and gives you feedback and suggestions. It can be anywhere from proposing that the writer rewords a certain sentence so it sounds better or giving a suggestion on the plot. Beta readers can be as detailed (giving very specific info on each chapter and whatnot) or pretty broad (what they overall thought of the entire chapter or chapters so far), depending on how busy they are or how much they'd like to do.

How long is it?
So far, I have 19 chapters in my first draft. (I'm working on chapter 20, and its word count is not included yet.) That totals to 83,283 words, which is actually the minimum word count to officially be a novel (50,000 words.) I'm still working on chapter 20, and I'm hoping to get to 25 chapters. Currently, the average word count per chapter is 4383 words. 

How will this process work?
I'm glad you asked! ;) Basically, you reply below and tell me that you'd like to be a beta reader. Please specify how many chapters you'd like me to send you at once. I will send you a link to a private page on my blog where you can read the chapters, and the password for the page will be included in the PM I send you. For example, I can send you the link for the first chapter, and then whenever you read it, PM me your opinion and/or any suggestions, and I'll send you the link for chapter 2. Or I could send you the links for five chapters at a time, or even all the links for the entire thing! It's completely up to you how much you want to read depending on the amount of time you have! After each chapter or chapters of my work-in-progress that you read, just PM me your opinion whenever you want. The schedule is completely up to you!

Keep in mind...
It's a work in progress, obviously. I actually add in something toward the end that doesn't make any sense in the first part of what I have so far, so I have to go back and edit the plot after I'm done writing this first draft. #PLOTHOLE! Everything is subject to change.
