Madi's Back and She's Got a Story to Tell

I have missed every single one of you! I hope everyone's doing all right - somebody fill me in on the latest and greatest and what happened on here while I was in Texas!

But first, let me tell you what happened.

So, before I left, I posted this, asking ya'll to pray for me. The next day, my mom and I flew on an airplane to Texas. We arrived at my granddaddy's house, my mom's dad, and we spent the night there.

The next morning, I woke up and knew that today was going to be really hard.

We drove maybe half an hour (?) to the hospital I go to. I took a few deep breaths. Yes, this was going to stink. I could feel it in my soul. My knee still wasn't any better. But I knew God had a plan.

I walked into the hospital and plastered a smile on my face. Though I felt like running away and crying, my feet kept walking with my mom as we walked into our clinic-checkup room thingy...It was a room where they...check you...like a doctor's office...you get what I mean?

I kicked off my shoes and pulled myself up onto the...it's not really an operation table, it's like a table, where the patient sits/lays on so the doctor's can check you. I have no idea what it's called! XP

It hurt my heart to fill out the pain level I was feeling. I never, ever had to do this. My pain level felt worse than the 2 I circled on the 1-5 pain scale I circled on the paperwork, but it wasn't quite a 3. So I circled the 2 in faith.

A young woman, who was training to be a rhuematoligist, came and checked me out first. She was nice, but I was so nervous and shaky and she couldn't understand why. "Are you cold?" No. I'm deathly afraid of what you might do to my knee. "You don't need to be nervous," Well I am anyways! -__- (I didn't actually say any of that...but I was thnking it.)

"OK, well, I'll be right back with the rhuematoligist!" She told us after the exam. "This is it." I told myself.

My mom all of the sudden came up to me and laid her hands on my knee, praying more fervently than she ever did before. I've never heard her pray like that. She was so strong, and yet so desperate. Finally she said, gasping, "Madison, I feel the swelling in your knee go down. I feel power go through me into your knee." I sighed in response. I had already given up. To me, it was too late for a miracle.

Finally the real doctor came in. She's my favorite. She's so nice. I LOVE HER. "Wow, I expected your knee to be worse than this from what you said on the paperwork," is basically what she said. Know what that means?

A MIRACLE DID HAPPEN.

My knee was swollen when I filled out the paperwork. I knew I was going to have to get a steroid injection.

Then, my mom prayed and a miracle happened. The swelling went down just enough for something amazing to happen.

Then the doctor, expecting it to be as swollen as it said on the pain chart, was surprised that it didn't look too bad!

And I COULD BEND IT BACK FARTHER THAN I THOUGHT I COULD WHEN THE DOCTOR-IN-TRAINING WAS CHECKING ME OUT. They said so themselves.

I still had to do the steroid shot, but the doctor was so amazing, that for a while, my fears melted away. I felt so strong.

Here's the even-better part.

So in a steroid injection, the doctor's usually pull the fluid out manually with a big terrible needle. That's the pressure feeling, the sucking feeling, the agonizing, horrible pain-filled torture I had experienced three times before hand.

But because the swelling had LOWERED, the doctor said there was no need for that. They were only going to inject the steroids in and not draw any fluid out. That would only take about SEVEN SECONDS.

A miracle happened. God remembered me. And because He did, we didn't have to do the REALLY painful part.

I don't know if you understood me. A miracle happened that day. God used the doctor's to help me, and he also touched my knee just enough so they didn't have to stink the fluid out.

The steroid shot hurt. It did. Both injections (the numming medicine and the steroids) took about sevon seconds each. The anticipation was the worst part, actually - I COULD NOT stop shaking. Literally. I was freaking out. I took deep breaths, and my mom stroked my hair and held my hands and sung to me sweet Jesus songs just like last year. The same child specialist calmed me down a little, too, by answering all my questiosn (I asked a bunch....)

But when the first needle went in, I stopped shaking.

I can't describe the pain, but it hurt. It felt weird. But I wasn't scared anymore. The seven seconds felt like eternity. I just focused on taking big, deep breaths, and focusing on my mom's singing. I could imagine an x-ray on what my knee looked like inside as I imagine the medicine going in. I can't even describe it....that moment was very weird.

Then the numming medicine was in and the needle went out. I took a few more deep breaths. "One more, you're doing great!"

I started shaking again, but as soon as the steroids entered, I stopped shaking.

I calmed down.

I closed my eyes.

And I focused on breathing, and just getting through the pain. "It's almost over." I would keep telling myself again and again.

And then it was.

My knee was in a brace, but I had a great time at my BFF's anyways. They cheered me on when the twenty-four hour timer I set was done and I ripped off the brace. They helped me as I limped around their living room, stretching my knee and trying to regain my strength. My knee was very sore, but it didn't feel so swollen. In fact, it was BARELY swollen. There was literally just a smidgen of difference between my arthritic knee and the good one.

That day, we swam. And it felt good on my knee.

The day after that, we went to a waterpark. My knee was only a tiny bit sore, but I was so proud of myself. I had stayed strong during the steroid shot, and two days later, I was already walking around the waterpark, riding rides with my BFF's, and buying the biggest snowcone I'd ever seen in my life. Literally. It was HUGE! Expensive, too - $4.50 - EACH - but my BFF's and I devoured it. I hadn't eaten a snow cone in such a long time.

And I ate every single bit of it.

Down to the last drop.

The next day, my mom and I flew home.

And here we are.

Tonight, we go to an awesome fondue place in celebration. I'm off my diet for a little celebration of getting to splurge on treats my diet wouldn't allow, so I can't wait to eat the delicious fondues... cooking my own meat in the wine mixture...dipping the yummy bread in savory cheese...and the dessert fondue, oh my word, I'm imagining it now!

SO THANK YOU, so much, for praying. Every single one of you. From AGH members, to unnamed anonymous viewers, to the commenters on DWOD. Your prayers made a huge difference. My knee is getting much better, and the steroid shot wasn't the worst I've had at all.

It's hard to compose the gratitiude and relief I feel into words. I'm relieved it's all over. Driving home from the hospital, I felt like laughing and crying all at the same time. And I'm so grateful and thankful to all of you for praying for me, for encouraging me, and for just reminding me that God has a plan. I truly believe He used the doctors to help my knee get better. I don't know why He didn't just heal it all the way - I don't have an aswer for that. But I do know He did touch my knee, to make that steroid shot not as terrible.

So, do things end happily for Madison Lorfing?

Well, things haven't ended yet. So we don't yet know, do we?

But I can say, that the month of July ended happily for Madison Lorfing.

^_^

And, the doctor said, since my knee was doing better than she expected, that isntead of waiting TWO weeks to do any hard physical activites after getting the injection, I only have to wait one. So next week, I can do gymnastics! YAY! THANK YOU JESUS!

P.S. Excuse any typos, LOL! My mind is too fast for my fingers who desperately struggle to keep up and sometimes hit the wrong letters by accident. And I'm a bit too busy to proofread...I need to go pickout what I'm wearing for church tomorrow...

Re: Madi's Back and She's Got a Story to Tell

Thanks, Lydia!!! :D HE SURE DID :D
Oh, and what's also cool, the doctor's didn't scoff at me for crying out to God during the entire time. I was praying, "God, use me to inspire other girls who have jevunile arthritis like me! Help me, Lord! Help me to be strong!" They were actually interested on what we did as ministers/missionaries, and weren't rude/offended at all!!! :-)

Re: Madi's Back and She's Got a Story to Tell

You are so so pretty! And here's everything you've pretty much missed:
1. Random chat
2. Blossom got herself obsessed with another band and their antics
3. We've posted our characters for the story you, me, Lydia, and Hope are doing
4. You've made me start rabbittrailing
5. Blossom was mostly the only one on in the mornings because Lydia was at VBS
That's pretty much it!
